The Plenary Session of the Municipal Corporation of the City Council of San Bartolomé de Tirajana has unanimously approved in its ordinary session this Thursday the start of the strategic environmental procedure that requires the minor modification of the General Urban Planning Plan of the municipality aimed at ordering and regularizing the area. territorial of Las Salinas del Matorral and the rural settlement of Lomo Los Pajaritos-Barranco del Negro (Salobre Alto).

 

These two initiatives have been processed by the Department of Urban Planning, directed by councilor Davinia Ramírez Collado, at the request of the El Matorral Neighborhood Association and the Platform for Affected People of El Salobre, Lomo Los Azules and Surrounding Areas, respectively.

 

The request to initiate the strategic environmental procedure approved by the Plenary, together with the accompanying documentation, will now be processed to the municipal Environmental Body so that it can proceed with its consultation for a period of 45 business days. Afterwards, said body must issue the mandatory strategic environmental report, for which it will have a period of four months. 

 

The environmental report will be published in the Official Gazette of the Province and in the electronic headquarters of the environmental body within a period of 15 business days, and will be brought to the attention of the two neighborhood entities that have promoted two urban planning initiatives, and the Transition Department. Ecological and other competent administrations.

 

The first deputy mayor, Alejandro Marichal, pointed out that, although the previous government group initiated the procedure related to the settlement of Las Salinas del Matorral and raised it to the plenary session on June 30, 2022, he was explicitly warned that it was only about to send a report to Costas, so they were asked not to generate false expectations. “The environmental evaluation procedure was never initiated nor was the modification of the General Plan in this regard effectively,” he stated.

 

Both Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez and the First Deputy Mayor made it clear that from now on these two files will have “a long processing process that will take at least two years,” as they will require the relevant environmental reports and their submission to initial approvals. and definitive. Furthermore, Marichal warned as “important” that the completion of the Las Salinas settlement “will depend on the report issued in this regard by the General Directorate of Coasts.”
