Loro Parque does not throw in the towel and is confident of moving forward with the Siam Park project in Gran Canaria

Wolfgang Kiessling's group begins the year by betting heavily on a project that has been stalled for years due to various political obstacles and that seems to have become the main objective of the German tycoon.

2024 has begun in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, putting back on the agenda what has possibly been the most relevant issue of the last decade in the municipality: the construction of Siam Park in Gran Canaria.

The Loro Parque Group has issued a statement in which it has reiterated its commitment to the Siam Park project in Gran Canaria despite the historical difficulties that said project has faced and which it currently attributes to the current Government group of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, with Marco Aurelio Pérez at the helm.

In the document, the group underlined its continued support for the project, considering it a crucial initiative for Gran Canaria and its tourism development. The group stated that they will not give up on the project and that they will continue to take steps forward despite the “declared opposition” by Marco Aurelio Pérez himself and Alejandro Marichal, Councilor for Urban Planning.

The Loro Parque Group maintains that the project, previously supported by the Gran Canaria Council as being of "general and strategic interest for the Canary Islands", should not be hindered by the will of a few politicians against it.

Wolfgang Kiessling's group acknowledged that it has redirected part of the funds allocated to the construction of the water park, approximately 120 million euros, towards investments that strengthen the financial stability of the group's various parks, especially the zoos.

The company stressed that the water park project has faced a decade of impediments in which it has not been able to develop; "something that is not due to causes attributable to the Loro Parque group," they say in the statement, making clear the position of the group, which maintains a continuous interest in moving the project forward.

Those from Kiessling highlighted the positive impact of the project on the leisure infrastructure of Gran Canaria, as well as the generation of employment for the island, aspiring to position Gran Canaria and the Autonomous Community as the best international destination in leisure parks, supported by international recognition over the years and a consolidated brand both nationally and internationally thanks to being one of the main tourist references on the neighboring island.
