Gran Canaria reaches record tourist arrivals for 2017 in November

Maspalomas24h Thursday, January 04, 2024

The island tourism sector receives 9% more tourist clients in the penultimate month of the year compared to the same month in 2022 and 5% more than in November 2019, while remaining 41 clients short of the maximum in 2017

Gran Canaria closed the month of November with the presence of 424.973 tourist clients, which implies a growth in volume of 9% compared to the same month of the previous year and 5% more than in November 2019, when 405.715 arrived. The November figure, as published by ISTAC, can only be compared with the 425.014 tourists in November 2017, a year that barely maintains the absolute record in the history of the island tourism sector.

“The end of the 2023 financial year is being very positive, with data that far exceeds the comparison with 2019 and is already among the two best in our history. We are receiving a volume of clients that is approaching our best historical year, which is 2017, which was affected by the Arab Spring, which is a difficult milestone to reach. This comes to accompany the improvement in billing, above the increase in prices and inflation, and is supported by market diversification, historical connectivity and the general improvement of the complementary product, which is why we are satisfied with the development of the end of the year in the absence of the month of December and its closing,” analyzed Carlos Álamo.

Gran Canaria received a total of 386.165 foreign clients in November, with a positive variation of more than 30.000 people compared to last year and more than 20.000 compared to the 362.198 foreign tourists in November 2019. The progress of the British market stands out, with the presence of 81.873 Anglo-Saxon clients, and the good situation of the rest of European clients, with a general increase while maintaining relevant markets such as the national, Nordic and German markets.

The Nordics improve in the year-on-year comparison with the presence of 123.080 tourists compared to 121.005 in November 2022, despite the fact that this client continues to be burdened by the containment of spending and the energy consequences of the war in Ukraine. The German market is in the same situation. Gran Canaria received 79.934 Bavarian clients in November.
