The president of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales, has announced today that the island Corporation reduces to 30 quarterly trips the journeys that users of public transport on the Island must make to obtain the free voucher. With this initiative, the island Government reduces and makes the previous conditions more flexible, which required 15 trips each month.
This was detailed by the island president, in an appearance he made alongside the second vice president and Minister of the Presidency and Sustainable Mobility, Teodoro Sosa, before the media, to inform the Gran Canarian citizens of these new requirements.
Thus, the new rule, which has been agreed upon with the Tenerife Cabildo, supposes, as Teodoro Sosa explained, “rigorous control and also flexibility”, since it will allow people who, until now, had to make those 15 trips and that it was detected that some of those trips could be 'idle', in order to reach that monthly limit. “That way, those 30 quarterly trips will not be controlled month by month,” the counselor explained. “We will no longer have to be in that hurry to try to consolidate those 15 trips monthly and keep them free.”
In this sense, Sosa stressed that, currently, in Gran Canaria there are 400.000 active resident bonds, which means that almost half of the population uses public transport regularly, so this measure is of singular importance for citizens. .
In this way, the new system will start on February 1 and, from that day on, a person will have to be monitored only quarterly, not monthly. And, if he fails to meet the requirements, he will have to go pay his bill, his bonus, and a new window will automatically open, a new cancellation period for the next three months.
