The IV Series PDM 2024, the championship for karting enthusiasts that will take place at the Tarajalillo Motor Park, in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, will expand the number of races from 4 to 7, due to the high demand for participants.

 

This Friday the championship was presented at the Motor Park facilities, with the projection of the official video, slides of references in the test, interviews with prominent figures and a round table with great drivers of the PDM Series.

 

Jose Luis Chicharro, organizer of the PDM 2024 Series, highlighted for this edition "more races, more circuits, more equality, more fun and more competitiveness." In addition, he stressed that an important effort will be made to ensure that all races maintain as much equality as possible.

 

"Our goal is for participants to enjoy themselves," while pointing out that this edition will surpass the previous one.

 

In this sense, he explained that of the 7 races, only 5 will score, allowing the teams to combine the dates according to their family or work commitments.

 

The races will be held on February 3, March 9, May 4, June 1, September 7, October 12 and November 2. The tracks where the 2024 Series will be held will be the Motor Park, and the Junior and Senior tracks of the Gran Karting Club, with a night test yet to be determined on June 1 or September, the details of which will be known through social networks. .

 

The registration of teams and drivers will be carried out through an online program, the process of which will also be announced on social networks.

 

Approach to society

 

After more than 4 decades of activity, Jose Luis Chicharro organizes the Motor Park Series because he considers that karting is the "great forgotten" of motorsports in the Canary Islands and seeks to bring it closer to Canarian society. It is a race format suitable for all budgets, and it is an activity to which he has dedicated pure passion throughout his career.

 

When asked about the best memory he has, he did not hesitate to point out that moment when he won the Spanish championship in the 125 cc category. in the company of his father in 1998.

 

Peto Nieves, mechanic at the CRG factory (the brand of the karts used in the series), explained during his speech that karting has been his passion and way of life since he was born, since he attended the circuits with his family when he was a child. baby. Coincidentally, both drivers present at the event have parents who were regular racers.

 

Also asked about the best memories of his professional career, he highlighted his experiences in Europe and in 2016, when he attended the European and World Championships as a mechanic with his Catalan driver Pedro Hiltbran, who became world champion, annulling the historic feat achieved by Fernando Alonso in 1996.

Round table with great drivers in the PDM Series

 

José Juan Lozano, Israel Rodríguez and Héctor Suárez, prominent drivers in the PDM Series, participated in the round table.

 

José Juan Lozano, founder of the PIG Community and also an industrial engineer, has participated in 13 PDM series races and another 14 Rental Kart races throughout Spain and several European countries. He also has the title of the international Canary Islands Endurance competition.

 

Lozano started karting only 4 years ago in 2020 together with a friend. Despite "terrible" starts, he continued with the sport thanks to his desire to run and having fun. Finally, more members joined his group and he founded the PIG Community. This unique group supports each other with the philosophy of "having fun", maintaining continuous learning to improve the driving experience. It is an open group that accepts new enthusiasts who want to enjoy themselves.

 

Israel Rodríguez, former Formula Fiat driver and current lawyer, started in motorsports from karting, later moving on to rallies and being one of the first Canarian drivers to reach the promotion formula. He won several races and achieved 2 runner-up finishes in Formula Fiat. This will be his third PDM Series season with the JIC Racing team.

 

Rodríguez started in the sport from a very young age, since his father was a rally driver and had his own kart that he used to train. He now returns to karting because of the convenience that team preparation entails today, compared to the tedious task of that time. All this, together with the low economic costs, motivated his return.

 

Héctor Suárez, former F3 driver and current head waiter at a restaurant owned by the well-known chef Martín Berasategui, started in the karting specialty in 1994. He competed when he was only 9 years old and became champion of Las Palmas, Canary Islands and runner-up in Spain. . He rose to become a Formula 3 driver, passing through the Saxo Cup and Formula Junior.

 

"All my childhood I have belonged to the Gran Karting Club family and until I was 22 I grew up in this environment," he indicated. As for this race format, it is what has awakened his passion to return to racing with enthusiasm and good company.
