José López Fabelo, mayor of Ingenio, resigns

 

The mayor of Ingenio, José López Fabelo, from Forum Drago-NC, presented his resignation this Saturday. Marked by controversy due to his fierce opposition to two solar plants in the municipality, Fabelo leaves the mayor's office after winning it last May and sending the socialists into opposition after the mandate of Ana Hernández.

 

 

The decision to leave was formalized after a meeting of the electoral coalition between Forum Drago and NC on Saturday morning.

 

The decision was made public through a statement issued by the Government group Forum Drago-NC and Somos-PP, it is stated that the decision was communicated to the political representatives during a local assembly called last Saturday. They affirmed that the continuity of the pact remains solid and reflects the popular will.

 

Apparently, everything seems to indicate that the government pact between Forum Drago-NC and Somos PP is maintained and Vanesa Martín, second in command of Forum Drago, will be López Fabelo's successor as mayor.

 

For now, a transition period is expected where the first deputy mayor, Rayco Padilla of Somos PP, will assume the maximum responsibilities of the council until a municipal plenary session is held to ratify the election of the new mayor.

 

It had recently been expressed from both sides of the government group that the situation of the city council under López's leadership had become unsustainable. The departure of the first mayor seeks to preserve and provide stability and strength to the government alliance in the face of a legislature that is just over half a year old.
