Tirajana: the curious treacherous solar energy project raffles off AV-PP and CC

What they do not dare to do in Fuerteventura with photovoltaic panels is placed in the south of Gran Canaria. The Government of the Canary Islands has given the green light this January to the plan of Naturgy Renovables, the former Gas Natural, for the installation of the Aldea Blanca I Photovoltaic Park, of 0,7 MW, in San Bartolomé de Tirajana. This investment project comes from the time when Naturgy was developing projects with the real estate company Lanzagorta, which was the one who requested the declaration of general interest for the project. The head of the hydrocarbon section of Ecological Transition in Las Palmas, Rafael Ferrando Carrasco, has followed the procedure.

Last May, just a few days after the regional elections and with the Canary Islands Government in office since the 28th of that month, the socialist advisor of the Ecological Transition, Balvuena, from Tenerife, reaffirmed that the general interest of the necessary works. And when the local government coalition of AV-PP and CC had not taken office in June 2023, it sent the order to the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council giving 15 days to object, something that does not occur in the middle of a change of mandate. AV-CC and PP form government in June 2023.

Once the government group is established, the City Council of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, issues its disagreement with the urban planning in force in 1996 and requests that the process be paralyzed until the declaration of public and social interest is processed prior to the granting of a license. municipal. This in the municipality only leaves some operating fees but for local society it is of no use. The investment does not reach one million euros.

The Gran Canaria Council did the same and is opposed because the 2022 PIOT states that "it would only be possible if it were intended for self-consumption" or "it had the character of complementary income to an existing agricultural activity, characteristics not met by the proposal." In any case, the planned installations will not be able to produce flashes derived from the sun's reflection, which could affect road users' driving. This authorization is granted without prejudice to the property rights of the occupied lands and of which it is assumed that the property or authorization of passage is available from the promoter, according to the head of the Fuels and Renewable Energy Service, Víctor M. Almeida Martin
