The Department of Agriculture of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council directed by councilor Araceli Armas Cruz will offer a course on winter pruning of vineyards this Friday and Saturday at the Pancho Guerra Cultural Center, in Tunte.
The objective of the course is to introduce participants to the different vineyard management systems to optimize and improve their production. The person in charge of providing the training will be the agricultural technical engineer Damián Díaz González, master in viticulture and oenology.
The course will last six hours and will be theoretical and practical. The theoretical class will be taught on Friday the 19th from 16:30 p.m. to 19:30 p.m. at the Pancho Guerra Cultural Center, and the practical class will take place on Saturday the 20th, between 09.00:12.00 a.m. and XNUMX:XNUMX p.m., at a vineyard farm in Tunte.
This course is organized by the Island Federation of Associations of the Wine Sector of Gran Canaria (Vinigran) and is financed by the Ministry of the Primary Sector, Food Sovereignty and Water Security of the Island Council. The places available to attend it are limited to 30 .
As will be remembered, the 2023 harvest, a bad year for the vineyards due to the successive heat waves that occurred in the first months of summer, when the grapes are reaching their maximum ripeness, was closed in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana with a harvest of 53.159 kilos, 8% less than the previous harvest, which was 57.683 kilos.
