Gran Canaria adds a new record and touches 14 million passengers in 2023

 

The Gran Canaria airport has closed the 2023 financial year with a historic figure, having surpassed the passenger entry statistics of recent years and ending close to the figure of 14 million travelers, specifically 13.961.638 travelers. This statistic implies an increase in passenger volume compared to 2021 of 12,4% and 5% compared to 2022. In addition, it confirms that the island tourist destination, with historical connectivity and in the absence of knowing the official data for the end of the year , has just concluded one of the best years in its history. 

 

“Never before has the airport received so many people and we are congratulated. In this case, I believe that the commitment we have made to the diversification of our tourist issuing markets has been important, since we have been able to compensate for the declines in markets such as the German or Nordic ones with the incorporation of clients of other nationalities, thereby “We have reduced our dependence on traditional markets,” said the Minister of Tourism of Gran Canaria, Carlos Álamo.

The Gran Canaria airport, according to Aena, closed the year as the fifth national aerodrome in passenger volume. This statistic is led by the Adolfo Suárez Madrid Barajas airport, with 60.220.984 passengers. They are followed by Barcelona airport (49,9 million), Mallorca airport (31,1 million), Malaga airport (22,3 million) and Alicante (15,7 million). Gran Canaria appears in fifth position in the national ranking with its 13,961,638 passengers, which represents 12,4% more than in 2022. 

 

In terms of operations, the airport with the most movements in 2023 was Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, with a total of 389.179 (+10,6% compared to 2022), followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, with 318.957 flights (+12,5 ,228.920%); Palma de Mallorca, with 3,7 (+161.684%); Málaga-Costa del Sol, with 12,2 (+129.552%); Gran Canaria, with 8,4 (+100.547%); and Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, with 11,6 landings and takeoffs (+XNUMX%). 

 

Gran Canaria Airport registered the highest number of passengers of the Canary Islands airports in 2022 with 12.417.699. In 2019 there were 13.261.405. In 2017, a record year for tourist arrivals, the island received 13,1 million passengers through its airport. 

 

In the month of November, the Gran Canaria aerodrome was the fourth with the highest passenger traffic in Spain. The Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport registered the highest number of passengers in the eleventh month of the year with 4.841.970 travelers. They are followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, with 3.831.469 (+18,1% compared to 2022); Málaga-Costa del Sol, with 1.474.163 (+22,6%); Gran Canaria, with 1.260.578 (+5,2%); Tenerife South, with 1.177.497 (+10,8%); Palma de Mallorca, with 1.098.070 (+13,2%); and Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, with 1.069.710

The airport with the most movements in November was Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, with a total of 31.992 (+5,1% compared to 2022), followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, with 25.169 flights (+15,5%); Gran Canaria, with 11.799 (+4,9%); Málaga-Costa del Sol, with 11.001 (+15,1%); Palma de Mallorca, with 9.866 (+9%); Tenerife South, with 7.943 (+7,4%); and Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, with 6.963 landings and takeoffs (+11,7%).
