The supramunicipal body requests citizen collaboration for the proper functioning of the recycling chain

The Commonwealth of the Southeast of Gran Canaria will renew its fleet of containers for organic waste over the next three months, given the poor condition of some units.

In recent months, an increase in acts of vandalism has been detected, with locks broken or forced to deposit improper waste that seriously affects the recycling chain.

In this sense, the Southeast Commonwealth wants to send an awareness message to citizens, reminding them of the need for proper use of these containers. These brown containers play a fundamental role in collecting the raw material that allows the production of compost in the Gran Canaria Sur Ecopark, so only organic waste should be deposited in them. The presence of other waste, as well as plastic bags, compromises the quality and sustainability of the composting process and prevents recycling.

The entity also remembers that acts of vandalism put the correct functioning of the service at risk, with the environmental and economic damage that this entails.

The renewal of damaged containers will require a period of about 14 weeks, a time during which interruptions in service may occur. The Commonwealth, together with the winning company, Ayagaures Medioambiente, request citizen cooperation to preserve the integrity of an essential service for the quality and environmental sustainability of the three municipalities.
