The solidarity campaign “eat a banana for La Palma” arrives in San Bartolomé de Tirajana

Leisure-festive activities will energize Maspalomas on November 12, 13 and 14 to raise funds for those affected by the volcano

The solidarity campaign “Eat a banana for La Palma – A banana, a hope” arrives in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana with a multitude of activities that will take place on November 12, 13 and 14 in a fun and supportive weekend .

 

This initiative has been promoted by the Federation of Commercial and Business Areas of the Canary Islands FECOECA – Gran Canaria a Cielo Abierto and aims to seek funds to help companies affected by the La Palma volcano. To do this, they have developed this traveling campaign through different municipalities on the island. 

 

In the southern municipality, the campaign has the collaboration of the Solidarity Department of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council, directed by Mercedes Díaz, and other areas such as Culture and the Primary Sector.

 

Donations will be made through the purchase of bananas, a crop on which around 10.000 families in La Palma depend, and each banana can be purchased for a minimum contribution of one euro. The funds raised will be sent to the Federation of Businessmen of La Palma FEDEPALMA.

 

The campaign starts this Friday, November 12, with family activities and workshops in the parking lot of the San Fernando Day Stay Center organized by the Association of Retail Merchants of San Bartolomé de Tirajana ACOMISABA. 

 

The activities will take place throughout the day. In the morning, different schools will attend the event where students will be able to enjoy activities, inflatables, workshops and performances by clowns and magicians. In the afternoon, the day will continue until 20:30 p.m. full of enthusiasm and dynamism by groups that wanted to offer different musical performances and fun for the little ones.

 

Likewise, it will have different STANDs for collecting donations where, in addition to purchasing bananas, you can buy t-shirts with the slogan »We will not forget you, Bonita» for a symbolic price of 10 euros.   

 

Alejandra Castro, President of ACOMISABA and Vice President of FECOECA-Gran Canaria a Cielo Abierto, has been excited about the campaign, which has already been very well received in other municipalities, and has thanked the collaboration of companies and institutions such as the Plataneras Cooperatives COPLACA, LAIRAGA AGRÍCOLAS DEL NORTE, the municipal radio stations, SONOCOM, The Rotary Club of MAspalomas, IMPRENTA MALQUERIDA, We make your dreams, BAZAR ANI, AFIMAGEN, Cafetería Timanfaya, Karuna Maspalomas, Maspaelectrica and the City Council of San Bartolomé de Tirajana. 

 

On Saturday the 13th, people who want to contribute to the cause can do so at the San Fernando Municipal Market, where the traditional market is held, and on Sunday the 14th they can do so by going to the Plaza de Timanfaya, where the “Savoring Gran Canaria” market will be held. ” from 8 a.m. to 14:00 p.m. On this occasion, a series of cultural activities with crafts, a concert and a club fighting workshop will be added to the agricultural market.

 

The Mayor of the municipality, Concepción Narváez, thanked ACOMISABA AND FECOECA for the initiative. “It is an honor for us to participate in this campaign that will surely be very well received by citizens throughout the weekend.”
