Following its clear commitment to quality local products, SPAR Gran Canaria has completed the marketing campaign for the Valleseco reineta apple with the sale of 10.800 kilos of this precious local fruit. The apples have been marketed through the collaboration agreement signed, for the second edition last September, between six farmers from Valleseco and SPAR Gran Canaria.
Thanks to this agreement, SPAR Gran Canaria has maintained its commitment to apple farmers for the purchase of their production with the guarantee of marketing their crops at a fair price, which has covered their production costs, shortening payment terms. to provide liquidity to these producers and taking charge of transporting the apple from Valleseco to the Fruits and Vegetables Division of SPAR Gran Canaria in Mercalaspalmas, from where the product has been distributed to the 196 points of sale in the 21 municipalities of the island .
The 2023 campaign of the reineta apple, extra or first category, which began in September and ended in December, has concluded, notably exceeding the initial sales forecasts of 8.000 kilos, with the marketing of an additional 2.800 kilos. Last year's campaign also ended with better results compared to 2022, with an increase of 12% more fruits sold.
SPAR Gran Canaria thus continues to prioritize the purchase of local, more sustainable products, in direct collaboration with more than 200 farmers and ranchers on the islands.
