Agents of the Civil Guard and National Police, within the framework of a joint operation, have seized more than 1.500 kilos of cocaine in waters near the coast of Gran Canaria by intercepting a semi-rigid boat and arresting the boat's crew.
As a result of joint monitoring and surveillance and thanks to the information provided by the General Directorate of Surveillance over the Moroccan Territory (DGST), in the early hours of January 12, 2024, it was detected how an inflatable boat could plan to access the coast of Gran Canaria near the Arinaga coast.
This is when the Río Órbigo Civil Guard patrol boat detected the aforementioned vessel, initiating a pursuit of it and proceeding to arrest and board it.
After the boarding, the three crew members of the boat were arrested and 1.564,5 kilograms of cocaine that they were transporting divided into 64 packages were seized.
The 64 bales of cocaine and the detainees were transferred to the Puerto de la Luz in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, proceeding to the unloading and weighing of the drug, which added up to a total amount of 1.564,5 kilograms, and was subsequently transferred to the Police Command.
