CARNIVALS OF THE WORLD PROGRAM - MOGÁN 2024
Four days full of fantasy, music and fun is what the Costa Mogán Carnival 2024 promises, which arrives in the town of Arguineguín from February 22 to 25. The party will celebrate 'The Carnivals of the world' with a program that includes the Drag Gala, the People's Gala, the Day Carnival, the Family Carnival and the Parade.
The mayor of Mogán, Onalia Bueno, unveiled the carnival events this morning together with the Councilor for Culture and Celebrations, Mencey Santana, and the Councilor for Sports, Luis Becerra. Also present is the poster of 'The Carnivals of the World', made by the artist Nauzet Afonso. His role as a fashion designer has led him to create a very attractive poster, drawn and made by hand with fabrics and other stationery materials. “The result is, without a doubt, very original, and we greatly appreciate his professionalism and that he has expressed his creativity in this way to present our Costa Mogán Carnival to the public,” said Bueno.
“It was an honor to receive the call from the mayor and the Culture and Celebrations team led by Mencey Santana,” said Afonso, explaining that he has tried to “avoid the graphic design to which we are accustomed” and “recycle ourselves again, inspiring us in all kinds of costumes. Pirates, clowns, Caribbean characters, etc. Because the Costa Mogán Carnival invites us to enjoy all the carnivals in the world and that is what the poster evokes.”
The Mogán councilor reported that, as has been done for several years now, with the goal that “the Carnival reaches the entire municipality, so that the neighbors can enjoy it to the fullest,” in addition to the four days of the Costa Mogán Carnival that Arguineguín hosts, carnival activities have also been scheduled in the neighborhoods. “They will be held starting January 27 in Playa de Mogán, Veneguera, Barranquillo Andrés, Las Filipinas, El Horno, Motor Grande and the town of Mogán,” he said, announcing “batucadas, mascaritas dances with musical groups and orchestras, catwalks and costume contests, workshops, carnival tortillas and chocolate”, among others. All information in this regard will be published starting this Friday on the official profiles of the Consistory on social networks.
Likewise, he noted that the Traditional Carnival will take place with a mascarita dance on February 16 in Arguineguín. The parties from the Los Pescadores, Arguín and Guayajares municipalities will participate in this, as well as La Polvajera, from Telde.
Bueno thanked Gran Canaria Tourism for the support of the Costa Mogán Carnival 2024, a party that he assured “the residents of the municipality and the island enjoy, but also the tourists who visit us.” Likewise, to the Canary Islands Institute of Equality, which this edition collaborates by financing non-sexist workshops and games.

Mencey Santana indicated that the Plaza Negra in the town of Arguineguín will be where the main events will be concentrated, such as the galas and mogollons.
On Thursday, February 22, the Costa Mogán Carnival will start in the afternoon with a family carnival gymkhana and the 'Carnival in Equality' - crafts and games workshops - in the tent in Plaza Pérez Galdós. At 21:00 p.m., one of the most anticipated events will take place, the Drag Gala, which will be directed by Nauzet Afonso and hosted by Roberto Herrera, with performances by Latin pop singer Neo Pinto, who has been on the soundtrack several times. of the Canary Islands Carnival, Sharonne, winner of the second season of the television program Drag Race Spain, and Soraya Naoyin, singer and songwriter.
On the afternoon of Friday the 23rd, a carnival tortilla workshop will take place at the 'La Chirina' Arguineguín Youth Center and at night "we will enjoy the talent of the residents of the municipality" at the People's Gala. The ACEDANCE dance academy, the Ana Vega Ballet, the Municipal Sports Schools, the Mogán Occupational Center and the World Entertainment School (W.E.S) dance academy participate. Next, there will be a lot of carnival with the Tribute to Ricky Martin and DJ Promaster.
The Parade will be on Saturday, February 24, starting at 19:00 p.m. As usual, there will be batucadas, troupes, carnival groups and mascaritas. The councilor has reported that, due to the improvement and partial pedestrianization works on Miguel Marrero Rodríguez Street, the route varies compared to previous years.
The carnival procession will start this time from Mencey Avenue, continue along Francisco Navarro Navarro Street, Guanarteme and Jacomar Streets, ending at Damasco Street. At the end, the party will continue in the Plaza Negra with the mogollón starring Furia Joven, DJ Sammyto and Orquesta Banda Larga.
The last day of the Costa Mogán Carnival 2024 will begin very early in the Plaza de Las Marañuelas with activities for the whole family, including a costume catwalk, children's entertainment, workshops, tortillas and chocolate. There will also be a costume contest with a prize.
At around 12:00 the carnival and solidarity walk 'Your Carnival with Kilometers of Solidarity' will depart from this location. The event, organized by the Kilómetros “There will be many surprises during the tour, because the color, bustle and fun of the carnival have to be present,” said the Sports Councilor.

The parade will end in Plaza Negra, where the 'La Bajeta' Day Carnival will then begin to the sound of Ritmo Bakano, Los Salvapantallas and Armonía Show. With the sunset the farewell to the Costa Mogán Carnival 2024 will begin.
That same afternoon, the Sardina will be watched by the entire carnival family in the company of Charanga Archipiélago and, subsequently, the murga Los Nietos de Sary Mánchez will participate in the funeral procession, which will leave Plaza Negra towards Las Marañuelas beach. There she will be burned and the carnivals will end until next year.
