The fall of a tree of more than 10 meters due to the wind in Sardina forced the action of firefighters
Firefighters from the Arinaga Park acted this Sunday after a tree fell on Policarpo Báez Street, in Santa Lucía de Tirajana.
The tree, more than 12 meters tall, fell on the road on this street in Sardina, blocking the path of a local road and putting other trees in the area, power lines and even pedestrians and vehicles at risk. Despite the proximity of the tree fall to a home, it was not affected.
According to the officers, the tree had been dry for years and the gusts of wind this weekend caused it to fall.
The situation led to the activation of the firefighters at 12:30 noon, which is why several firefighters were mobilized from the Arinaga Park to tackle the task. Firefighters used tools such as chainsaws to remove the affected tree and clear and secure the affected area.
A difficult operation that lasted up to five hours, concluding at 17:00 p.m., due not only to the size of the tree, but also to the added complications due to the presence of electrical and telecommunications wiring.
The Local Police collaborated with the fire brigade by coordinating traffic and pedestrian safety. Members of the Elecnor company also later participated in the restoration of the affected wiring.
Despite this mishap, the AEMET has not activated any wind warning in Gran Canaria for this Monday. Yes, it has been done for tomorrow, Tuesday, but only in the northern part of the island.
