The Parque del Sur picnic area with another 650 m² and the installation of 16 new family tables

The City Council of San Bartolomé de Tirajana has decided to improve and expand the family picnic area of the Parque Urbano del Sur by 650 more square meters, incorporating another 16 new tables to cover a public leisure service that is in high demand especially on weekends and holidays.

With this expansion, the picnic area of the largest urban leisure venue in the entire south of Gran Canaria reaches 1.430 square meters in total, in which a total of 26 tables are made available to park users for collective celebrations such as snacks or children's birthdays

The work to expand the picnic area has been carried out directly by the municipal staff of the Department of Roads and Works directed by the eighth deputy mayor, Araceli Armas Cruz, and coordinated by the councilor delegate Eduardo Armas Herrera, who supervised the installation of the new furniture.

“With this expansion and improvement of the picnic area, which previously occupied an area of only 780 m², we respond to a need in the community, which repeatedly requested it because there were not enough tables to cover their growing demand. Our general objective is to expand the entire Park and enhance it as a fundamental meeting and recreation space for the residents of the municipality and also for visitors,” highlights Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez.

The 16 new tables cost around 13.354 euros and are made of 100% recycled and recyclable plastic. As head of Municipal Services, Araceli Armas highlights that in her choice “we opted for their similarity to those that already existed, but above all we sought that they offer greater durability and do not require maintenance, and were also made of a material that would contribute to environmental protection and to promote the circular economy of use of plastic waste.”

The ten tables that already existed will continue to be installed within the picnic area, although they have been relocated for greater and better use of the space, especially after the old iron cage that was installed in the area was dismantled and removed. same location.

In total, 8 groups of two tables and another five individual tables have been established and distributed throughout the picnic area. In addition, the new tables, each weighing approximately 150 kilos, have been fixed to the ground using a system of corrugated fixings to prevent them from moving.

The City Council requests users to use this leisure space in a measured and responsible manner. “It is very important and beneficial for everyone that the people who use the picnic area take responsibility for its care, cleaning and maintenance, especially when removing the garbage they generate, which must be deposited separately in the recycling containers that are located at the leaving the Park and not mixed in the trash cans distributed throughout the premises,” insists councilor Eduardo Armas.
