The Government of the Canary Islands, through the General Directorate of Emergencies, declares the pre-alert situation due to haze in the Canary Islands, starting at 06:00 on January 23.

This decision is made taking into account the information provided by the State Meteorological Agency and other available sources, and in application of the Specific Emergency Plan of the Canary Islands for Risks of Adverse Meteorological Phenomena (PEFMA).
Territorial scope: Canary Islands Autonomous Community
Remarks: Haze episode in variable concentration, which will probably reach and exceed 50 micrograms/m3. It will affect, above all, the coast and the midlands. It may cause health problems for people with chronic and/or respiratory diseases.
The population is urged to follow the following self-protection advice from the General Directorate of Emergencies.
How to prevent:
- Try to keep doors and windows closed, and avoid going outside if you suffer from chronic respiratory diseases.
- Make sure you have your usual medication.
- Drink plenty of fluids and avoid dry environments.
- Do not do severe physical exercise while this situation lasts.
- If you feel unwell, see your doctor.
- In this situation, visibility is greatly reduced. If you are traveling on the road, take extreme caution, turn on your lights and slow down.
