The counselor thanked the recognition and pointed out that Gran Canaria's link with the LGBTi community already has four decades of common history and that "we feel very close because it has always represented a unique opportunity for tourism on the Island, which has always responded by highlighting the moments of greatest need such as the years of recovery after the 2008 crisis.

“Gran Canaria is a world-leading destination for gay tourism. It is because of its proximity and connectivity, with direct flights from the main cities in Europe. Also because of the temperature and our mild summers and warm winters; for the landscapes, our beaches or for our wide hotel and non-hotel offer. But we are also a reference because we are a destination for everyone, whether for those looking for a sporting or scenic experience or simply to relax and eat well. But the most important thing is that we are a destination with a specific and historical offer for the LGBTi client, whom we especially value, whom we care for and respect deeply, in a destination that has a past and a history of unity and support for the LGBTi community. . We were one of the first destinations in the world to do so and from there a common history was built that has been successful and advantageous for Gran Canaria”, explained the Tourism Minister of Gran Canaria in his speech when collecting the badge, before finishing the point out: “Therefore, I can only thank the organization for their good work and wish all our visitors the best possible experience on our island, which is also theirs. That is our wish.”
