The name of Maspalomas comes from the surname of a Catalan conqueror, who arrived on the ships of Juan Rejón to the island at the end of the 15th century. His name was Rodrigo MORE FROM PALOMAR, which the Catholic Monarchs granted them the lands in the south of the island.
Furthermore, if we remove the DE and R of the end, we get the name of Maspalomas.
I will also remind you that it was previously called: LLANOS DEL AULAGAR, due to the amount of gorse that existed in the area.
