New earthquake in Santa Lucía de Tirajana

The earthquake could be felt in various parts of the island although its epicenter was in Santa Lucía de Tirajana

A new earthquake shook a good part of Gran Canaria this Sunday. The tremor occurred at approximately 23:00 p.m. and reached a magnitude of 3,4, which meant that it could be perceived in several parts of the island despite the fact that the epicenter was in Santa Lucía de Tirajana.

The Temisas area is where the tremor reached its greatest intensity, which subsequently spread with less force across the island, even being felt in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The epicenter of the earthquake was recorded at a depth of 26 kilometers.

Despite being clearly felt in various parts of the island, no damage was reported due to the tremor.

The magnitude of this earthquake is close to the highest intensity tremor recorded last year in the entire archipelago, which also occurred in Gran Canaria on July 6 and reached a magnitude of 3,7. That tremor was the most intense of the 2017 tremors recorded during 2023 on the eight islands.
