The concessionaire company for the water supply and purification service of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council, Canaragua Concesiones SAU, is finalizing the preparations to carry out the renovation of the sludge hopper of the El Tablero Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). . The necessary work is expected to be carried out during the week of February 6 to 13.
The replacement of the current hopper with a completely new one, manufactured expressly for the measurements of the El Tablero treatment plant by a specialized company on the Island, is due to the expiration and end of the useful life of the old installation, which is already beginning to show rust symptoms after 20 years of operation.
“This is a necessary and fundamental maintenance action for the proper functioning of the WWTP, since the hopper is the hermetic container in which the drying sludge generated after the wastewater purification process is stored,” he warns. the engineer responsible for the plant, Nut Franquiz.
Both the current silo and the new one have a storage capacity of 30 tons of dehydrated sludge, which is removed daily, from Monday to Saturday, and by means of special closed trucks that comply with waste transportation regulations, to the plant facilities. of biomethanization of the Salto del Negro Environmental Complex.
“Replacing the hopper is a complex task and must be carried out in the shortest possible time because its operation is essential to not affect the good operation of the treatment plant, which cannot be paralyzed. Purification management is continuous and generates sludge that must be stored in special spaces for treatment,” insists Nut Franquiz.
For this reason, the new hopper is already prepared and inside the premises. "The dismantling project and the replacement and connection of the new silo has been planned almost a month in advance, as it is not a regular or daily action and its execution requires great precision so as not to interfere with the water purification and treatment process. residuals,” says the councilor responsible for the Departments of Health and Municipal Services, Araceli Armas Cruz.
The City Council and Canaragua estimate that the sludge silo replacement procedure will be carried out in one week, and they especially ask the neighborhood community of El Tablero and Sonnenland for “understanding with the possibility that this action aimed at improving the performance of the treatment plant can produce bad odors.
