The oncology center of Hospitales Universitarios San Roque has been providing a new form of comprehensive care to cancer patients in the Canary Islands for five years with more than 5.000 new patients and 25.000 consultations.

The Burden of Cancer in the Canary Islands: More than 12.000 Canary Islands are diagnosed with cancer each year. Despite the increase in incidence, an increase in the survival rate of cancer patients in the region has also been observed. For men, the survival rate is 54%, and for women - 61%.

 

The Canarian Comprehensive Oncology Center of the San Roque University Hospital revolves around the patient as the protagonist of the process. “We have one of the widest technological platforms for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer available in a hospital center in the Canary Islands, highlighting its work philosophy in which “cancer cannot be treated by a single specialist” but by a multidisciplinary team. favoring quick and effective decision making. The notable areas of the Cancer Center, from which they help fight cancer, are:

 

• External radiotherapy with more than 2500 treatments, especially. The Exactract ultra-precision system allows treatments to be administered with submillimeter precision.

• The Interventional Oncology Unit, with more than 350 patients, which has its own Radiosurgery Room, and develops the combination of radiotherapy and surgery.

• Oncology Day Hospital, treatment has been administered to more than 1.000 patients. In this area, Oncobell technology has been incorporated, which allows hair loss caused by chemotherapy to be minimized.

• The only private center in the Canary Islands that incorporates Oncological Hyperthermia in the treatment of patients with advanced, inoperable or metastatic tumors.
