The Cabildo of Gran Canaria recognizes the work of 20 professionals, entities and associations from the social, cultural, economic and sporting world of the island who will receive in 2024 the honors and distinctions with which the Corporation honors those who have contributed to the performance of their work. profession and its activity to the improvement of the island and its citizens, as stressed today by the president of the Island Government, Antonio Morales.
Morales pointed out in the presentation of these recognitions that the proposal of the Commission created for the annual granting of honors and distinctions to people and institutions, coinciding with the anniversary of the creation of the Cabildo, which turns 2024 years old in 111, is made up of a wide listed and it includes contributions from all the political groups of the Insular Corporation.
Morales, who was accompanied during his appearance by the Minister of the Presidency and Sustainable Mobility, Teodoro Sosa, president of the Honors and Distinctions Commission, announced that the people designated in the proposal as Favorite Daughter and Son of Gran Canaria are the historian and former director of the Casa de Colón, Elena Acosta Guerrero; and, posthumously, the tenor Alfredo Kraus Trujillo.

Meanwhile, the veterinarian and scientist from La Palma Antonio Jesús Fernández Rodríguez is named Adoptive Son; and the marine environment teacher and researcher Marisol Izquierdo López, a native of Madrid, is welcomed as a new Adoptive Daughter.
In the distinctions section, the 'Can de Gran Canaria' of the Arts goes to the screenwriter, producer and film director Elio Quiroga; and in the film and theater performer Mónica López Moyano; while that of Sciences recognizes the engineer and reference in research on clean energies in the Canary Islands, Antonio Gómez Gotor; and the Professor of Art History María de los Reyes Hernández Socorro.
The 'Roques Nublo' highlight the role in the social sphere of the Association of Parents of People with Functional Diversity of the Southeast of Gran Canaria (Apadesur) and the Nos Movemos Foundation; while in the economic area they distinguish the businessmen Andrés Megías Pombo, from the fourth generation of the La Isleña company, and Antonio Roca Armas.
In the sporting field, the 'Roques Nublo' cast their shadow of distinction on UD Las Palmas midfielder Kirian Rodríguez and goalkeeper Misa Rodríguez. In the folkloric field, the awards are placed in the hands of the weaver Nilia Bañares and the Roque Nublo Folklore Group.
In the tourist sector, the 'Roques Nublo' go to the El Salvador Ecumenical Temple in Playa del Inglés and to the promoter Domingo Espino. Finally, the awards in the international solidarity modality are granted to the Canary Islands Association of Solidarity with the Saharawi People and the Spanish Committee Association of UNRWA to support Palestine refugees.
