The City Council undertakes the repair and improvement of public roads for €1.379.000
The San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council has completed the resurfacing and road marking works on 13 tourist streets in Playa del Inglés and Campo Internacional that were in a very poor state of conservation, with a public investment of 1.379.000 euros. The resurfacing of this 64.000 m² began in mid-January and was completed this Monday, two days ahead of schedule.
The improvement works on the Playa del Inglés road were carried out by the company Lopesan Asfaltos y Construcciones for approximately 765.844 euros. Action was taken on the avenues of Germany, France and Gran Canaria, also in the perimeter ring of the Annex II car parks, and on Lisbon, Oporto, Milan and Granada streets.
In the area of Campo Internacional, the work aimed at recovering and improving the pavement of public roads was awarded to the company Hermanos García Álamo SL for 613.000 euros, and had an impact on the sections that connect Avenida del Toruroperador Tui with the entrance to the Park Tony Gallardo, the Palmeral parking building and the Grupo Dunas tourist complexes, the access to Avenida de Gran Canaria and the section that links the plot of the Hacienda building with the roundabout of the sculpture 'Universal Friendship', donated by the Rotary Club.
This Tuesday, after checking the finish of the works completed yesterday, Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez highlighted that the resurfacing undertaken to improve safety, accessibility and coexistence in public spaces “are giving us a return, because the plot has been refreshed.” tourist in streets that were in absolute need of repair and that had to be addressed due to the poor condition they were in, with cracks and gravel chips with potholes in many parts of their route. He recalled that the last important paving in the tourist area was carried out six years ago, in 2018.
In his assessment, Marco Aurelio Pérez pointed out that the improvement works in the tourist area “have not finished, because the City Council continues to set out work to meet their needs. We are already marking the projects of another plan to improve tourist roads that will be paved throughout 2024, for which another €844.000 has been quantified. And to that is added all the refreshing cleaning and gardening work that is being carried out, because the tourist area needs constant maintenance. It is important that our visitors observe that action is being taken, as was done with the cleanups of Toboplaya and Mirador,” he said.
Strategic maintenance
Also the first deputy mayor and Councilor for Urban Planning, Alejandro Marichal Ramos, noted that this road resurfacing action, like the imminent asphalting in the area of Partera Leonorita and Bellavista, “is part of the day-to-day maintenance work and in the strategy that we have drawn up in the government group and especially from the Tourism area, to improve public space beyond the large projects for the improvement of tourist infrastructure with the help of the Government of the Canary Islands and with a new Plan “Modernization to renew the accommodation plant and shopping centers.”
Marichal insisted that the actions in the municipality's tourism field will be complemented with the public lighting project, "because it is another of the pending issues," he said, and with the works aimed at the rehabilitation of public spaces that the City Council plans to undertake. through the Maspalomas Tourism Consortium for the requalification of the destination.
