On Wednesday, November 24, the act of reversion of the Puerto Rico beach will take place, which will then cease to be a private concession and its management will pass to the Mogán City Council
Puerto Rico SA received the permit for the construction and exploitation of the Puerto Rico beach in 1972 and this was extended in 1974 until July 28, 2018. In September 2020, the General Directorate of the Coast and the Sea, a dependent body of the Ministry of Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, denied an extension of exploitation to the until now entity, for, among other reasons, the invasion of 1.865 square meters of public maritime land domain not granted, which has also led to the privatization of the same when part of it should be allocated to public services.
Puerto Rico SA then filed an appeal before the Contentious-Administrative Chamber requesting the application of precautionary measures, thereby managing to stop the reversal of the concession until the ruling of said Chamber. Finally, on October 28 of this year, the order was issued denying the request to Puerto Rico SA and therefore the right of exploitation by the company is extinguished.
Costas has summoned the Mogán City Council next Wednesday, November 24, for the reversal document, formalizing that day the reception of the management of Puerto Rico's beach by the local Administration. From that date onwards, the City Council will operate seasonal services. That is, hammocks, umbrellas, cleaning, lifeguard services and others. Since last July, the Moganero City Council has also managed Tauro beach after reversing its concession by the Canary Islands Coast Demarcation to Anfi Tauro SA
