The perpetrator used other people's personal data to acquire a watch valued at 750 euros
On February 01, 2024, the Civil Guard in Gran Canaria investigated a 45-year-old man with no police record, as the alleged perpetrator of the crimes of usurpation of marital status and fraud, when hiring a telephone company mobile telephony, online television services and the purchase of a mobile device, in the municipality of Mogán.
Complaint and initiation of investigation
On January 17, 2024, a complaint was received at the Main Post of Puerto Rico-Mogán in which the injured party stated that a mobile telephone company was claiming a debt of more than 800 euros for the contracting of a mobile telephone line. , an online television service and the acquisition of a high-end smartwatch valued at 750 euros, none of these services being contracted by the victim.
Development of events
For all this, the Civil Guard proceeded to request from the telephone company the contract signed in the name of the victim to obtain the telephone numbers linked to the smartwatch, as well as contact the owner of the bank account that also appeared in the contract, who resided on the island of Tenerife.
As a result of the efforts carried out, it was possible to relate the purchase of the device and the registration of the telephone line with a person whose professional activity is dedicated to the purchase and sale of used vehicles, who would have had a business relationship with both the complainant and with the owner of the bank account used, having allegedly used the personal and banking information that they sent them to manage the purchase and sale of some vehicles.
Once the alleged perpetrator was identified, he was investigated as the alleged perpetrator of the crimes of usurpation of civil status and fraud, and the agents were able to verify that he had the fraudulently acquired smartwatch in his possession.
Once the proceedings were completed, they were sent to the competent Guard Court of San Bartolomé de Tirajana on guard duty.
