Joint smoking holidays in the south of Gran Canaria? Since February 19, domestic cultivation and possession of certain quantities of cannabis have been debated in the German Bundestag to make them legal for adults. Bundestag approval is considered certain and the Bundesrat is expected to take up the law on March 22. The rule is supposed to go into effect on April 1. Cannabis consumption is illegal in Spain, except for medical marijuana, which is highly regulated. Possession or use of cannabis in public places can result in fines, and driving under the influence of cannabis is a serious offense.

In this context, owners of holiday homes in the south of Gran Canaria and hotels under a community of owners in Las Palmas with interests in the south of the island have reached agreements with a Swiss tour operator named Cannabis Urlaub to offer packages vacations with tickets associated with clubs of this type of vacation product.

"Cannabis vacations: perfect for anyone who wants to experience it all," says the company's motto. There are complexes such as Las Arenas, Faisán, Las Falúas, Apartamentos Miriam, in Playa del Inglés next to Amazonas, in addition to the Green Park or Parque Bali community of owners who have agreements with Cannabis Urlaub. The offer is associated with special prices to access cannabis clubs in the south of the island.

In 2015, agents from the Civil Guard and the Tax Agency concluded Operation Paparina II in Gran Canaria, in which 11 people were arrested and three more were investigated for alleged crimes against public health, money laundering and illicit association related to the so-called "cannabis tourism".

A note from the Civil Guard then reported that three of the detainees are Spanish and the rest foreigners and explains that the operation was initiated after the dismantling during the month of October 2014 of a greenhouse that had more than 130 marijuana plants in the interior of a home. During the search, it was discovered that, apart from the retail sale by the tenant of the home, most of the harvest was intended for sale to certain cannabis associations. Presumably, and under the protection of the doctrine of shared consumption, the intervened associations offered travel packages to the Canary Islands through various social networks that included the consumption of marijuana, adds the Civil Guard.
