The City Council of San Bartolomé de Tirajana is currently developing three training programs in alternation with employment (PFAEs), which are allowing 45 young people and adults from the municipality to acquire specific and technical knowledge in the field of aquatic lifesaving and gardening.
“They are two professions that continue to have a good exit in the labor market, especially in the field of the tourism industry,” said the second deputy mayor and head of the Department of Local Development, Elena Álamo Vega, during the meetings that have taken place. held this Wednesday with the beneficiaries of the three programs and the teachers in charge of their training, to find out how they are developing.
The PFAE 'SOS Maspalomas' is training 15 young people in lifeguarding in public facilities such as swimming pools and water parks. The project includes theoretical and practical training in swimming, accident prevention, rescue of accident victims and first aid, complemented by courses on occupational risk prevention, hygienic and sanitary conditions in public swimming pools, introduction to entertainment and sports revitalization in hotels and tourist complexes. , aquatic activities monitor, training for the use of defibrillators and making bandages.
To put their knowledge into practice, the students participated with the Department of Sports in the 'Swimrum' and 'Openwater' events, supporting the official lifeguard devices. They have also visited the Agualand water park to learn about the different tasks and functions of the lifeguards and their rotation system through the different stations of the facility, in addition to the most frequent accidents. For their training they have also had motivational talks from elite athletes such as open water swimmers David Meca and Laura Roca, and basketball player Fernando Romay.
The other two active PFAEs, called 'Environmental Sustainability' and 'Azahar', also with 15 students each, are providing their beneficiaries with a specific training itinerary so that they can obtain the professionalism certificate for the installation and maintenance of gardens and green areas , recognized by the State Public Employment Service (SEPE) as AGAO0208.
The training projects of both programs are aimed at offering skills to execute and organize the installation, maintenance and improvement operations of indoor and outdoor gardens and green areas, controlling plant health, handling machinery and gardening tools, and complying with environmental, quality and occupational risk prevention regulations.
The first of these programs has a mixed training plan with a total of 1.760 teaching hours, of which 1.190 are dedicated to the professional certificate, and the remaining 570 to complementary training on occupational risk prevention, English, vertical gardening and ecological flower production. groceries, social skills for employment and job search activities, mathematics, language, and environmental awareness among other subjects.
Insertion visits
The 'Azahar' program is the only one that is being carried out in the afternoon, and in addition to its theoretical-practical training, its students are developing service works in different municipal gardens and green areas, mainly in the urban area of El Tablero. The complementary training they are receiving is aimed at training for the performance of basic level functions and the maintenance of swimming pools and the hygienic-sanitary conditions that must be extreme in those for collective use.
The beneficiaries of this second gardening PFAE have been able to evaluate and contrast their training in guided visits to the natural area of Las Dunas and the Botanical Park of Maspalomas, and also to a nursery to learn about its facilities and the way of work used with the plants. garden plants, ornamentals, pots, decoration, soils and substrates. They have also made insertion visits to the Gran Canaria Princess Hotel, where they conducted job interviews and left their resumes. Another visit was to Paseo de Meloneras to see the gardens of the different hotels in the area and throughout this and next week they have planned job placement visits to the Hotel Cordial Mogán and Viveros Mogán, and to the Costa Meloneras, Baobab, Villa del Conde and Meloneras Golf.
