Tourism agrees with Mogán and San Bartolomé de Tirajana on formulas for specializing land uses

 

The Deputy Minister of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands, José Manuel Sanabria, and the general director of Tourism Planning, Training and Promotion, Miguel Ángel Rodríguez, held a telematic meeting this Wednesday with the mayor of Mogán, Onalia Bueno, the lieutenant of mayor, Mencey Navarro, the mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Marco Aurelio Pérez and the Councilor for Tourism of this municipality, Alejandro Marichal, to agree with them on a roadmap that allows them to work in a coordinated manner in order to resolve the situation of use residential areas of the Canary Islands.

 

This first meeting took place after the letter sent at the beginning of February by the Minister of Tourism and Employment, Jéssica de León, to the mayors of Mogán and San Bartolomé de Tirajana, in which she urged them to begin the procedures for the specialization of uses in municipal urban planning, which would allow the Government to adopt provisional measures linked to the sanctioning files of those affected owners.

 

 

The Deputy Minister of Tourism referred to the letter sent by the counselor in which he reminded them that the current Law on Tourism Renewal and Modernization of 2013 urged city councils to carry out a specialization of land uses in their municipalities and, in this In this sense, he asked the mayors for information on the formulas they plan to adopt to achieve this specialization, remembering that the beginning of the file of specialization of uses, whether through the General Plan, provisional ordinances or any other planning instrument, It would allow the Ministry of Tourism and Employment to adopt provisional suspension measures related to the sanctioning proceedings initiated so far.

 

For his part, the general director of Tourism Planning, Training and Promotion, Miguel Ángel Rodríguez, stated that the Ministry of Tourism and Employment is committed to organizing technical and legal professional conferences in which information is provided on the principle of unity of exploitation and land use specialization.

 

The mayor of Mogán, Onalia Bueno, announced that her municipality is in the process of submitting allegations to the General Urban Planning Plan and highlighted that this will be the main instrument that will allow tourism use to be specialized and adapted to the reality in the areas that are located. objectively residentialized.

 

 

The mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Marco Aurelio Pérez, indicated that they are waiting for an opinion commissioned by his council on the matter to be issued. In this sense, the Councilor for Tourism, Alejandro Marichal, pointed out that, in the short term, his municipality plans to prepare provisional ordinances that allow specialization of land use and will be detailed through the Plan for Modernization and Improvement of the tourism sector (PMM). ) in coordination with the regional Executive.

 

The Deputy Minister of Tourism and the General Director of Tourism Planning, Training and Promotion asked the mayors to notify the Ministry of Tourism and Employment as soon as possible of the evolution of their respective procedures in this matter, “since since the process began of land use specialization, the Government could adopt provisional measures to temporarily suspend sanctioning procedures initiated,” he stressed. 

 

Finally, the Deputy Minister of Tourism, José Manuel Sanabria, congratulated Onalia Bueno and Marco Aurelio Pérez for their agility in finding solutions in their planning, in coordination with the Government of the Canary Islands, which will allow the situation of the residents in tourist municipalities.
