Half a dozen producers and food trucks will bring products and dishes made with local raw materials in a gastro area that the race will feature for the first time
The North Face Transgrancanaria race celebrates its 25th edition from February 21 to 25 and, this year, Gran Canaria Me Gusta will fill the finish line with flavor, this Friday, February 24 and Saturday, February 25, located in Parque Sur Maspalomas.
With Gran Canaria as the natural setting for one of the most important ultra-distance races in the world, participants from 74 countries on five continents will have the opportunity to get to know the products and gastronomy of the island. Cheeses, natural juices, craft beers and dishes made with local products can be tasted in the gastro area that Gran Canaria Me Gusta has created for the enjoyment of runners and visitors.
“Gran Canaria Me Gusta had to be in Transgrancanaria because we share the same values. Promote km0 products among all the sports fans who are on the island these days,” says the Minister of Industry of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Minerva Alonso, during her visit to the gastro area.
Wendy Cruz, a member of the race organization, assures that they are very happy because the finish area has a fantastic gastronomic area, thanks to Gran Canaria Me Gusta and the Chamber of Commerce. “It is the first time that we have energized the South Park like this for runners and fans and in this way we have taken a leap in quality by providing this sports and leisure service, with the presence of local products and preparations,” she explains.
The first to reach the finish line was the Kenyan runner Robert Pkemoi, thus adding his second consecutive victory in the 46,4 kilometer race. “
Transgrancanria unites three essential elements. On the one hand, the promotion of sport as an element of social cohesion, health and its projection of the island thanks to sporting triumphs. On the other hand, tourism, which this year the test will once again be promoted in magazines, specialized media and social networks from outside the islands, thus allowing the island's tourist offer to be diversified. And as a third element, through the Gran Canaria Me Gusta program, which has the support of the Chamber of Commerce, it allows the food sovereignty of the island to be projected, through its products and its gastronomy.
“It is an honor to be here with our healthy food truck to offer our food. I think it's going to be our best event of the year, it's a privilege to be here," says Elsa Marrero, creator of the Pai Pai Beach street food concept, present in the gastro zone with Asoquegran, Dismepe, Eco Rico, the Everywhere food truck. and the Neos Beer beer van.
The North Face Transgrancanaria race is a speaker to bring the “territory, landscape, customs and traditions of Gran Canaria” to the whole world and, also, an example of the alliances between public and private institutions to make possible the promotion of the island and sport. “We have come to Gran Canaria with our son because he is going to participate in the Vertical race and the 21 kilometers. It is organized very well and you have everything you need, food, drinks...,” says Morena Franchini, from Italy.
