World Rally Championship (better known by its acronym WRC)
Although there is no official announcement from the Cabildo, the Sports Minister gave the great news this Sunday
'Formula 1 won't be coming, but the WRC is coming to Gran Canaria in 2025,' Aridany Romero announced this Sunday, confirming news that Maspalomas24h had already reported a few weeks ago. Romero confirmed this news informally in an interview on Televisión Canaria during the broadcast of the Transgrancanaria race, where he praised the Cabildo's achievements in bringing sporting events to the island.
A statement that, in the absence of official status, confirms rumors that have been suggesting for almost a year that the renowned Rally Islas Canarias would make the leap to the international scene and would be part of the World Rally Championship.

In the past, Aridany Romero himself spoke openly about the possibility of bringing the event to the island, although he also highlighted the difficulty of the negotiations due to the high amount of money that the promoter requested for Gran Canaria to become the venue; some economic differences that seem to have been resolved taking into account these statements by the counselor.
