MASPALOMAS24H Tuesday, February 27, 2024

Marco Aurelio, Mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana: “This year with our carnival program we intend to ensure that the entire Canary Islands and Europe enjoy the Maspalomas International Carnival”

Yilenia Vega, Councilor for Tourism, Events and Celebrations: “This Carnival on its 50th Anniversary needs a great celebration, with new features and for all audiences so that it pleases those of us who are already experts in participating in it and falls in love with the generations that “Our Carnival will be the future.”

The Department of Celebrations and Events of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council has presented the program of events to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Maspalomas International Carnival. At the event held at the Maspalomas Pricess Hotel, the mayor of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council, Marco Aurelio Pérez; and the Councilor for Celebrations and Events, Yilenia Vega, highlighted the importance of this anniversary that will celebrate five decades since her birth in 1974.

As Vega pointed out, “Maspalomas and its International Carnival are celebrating, not all major events have the satisfaction of celebrating their 50th Anniversary.” The Councilor for Celebrations and Events highlighted that her celebration will have many new features and with participation “open to all audiences so that those of us who are already experts in participating in it will like it and the generations who will be the future of our Carnival will fall in love with it.” ”. For this reason, she continued, the 2024 Carnival “will have some new features and surprises.”

For his part, Marco Aurelio Pérez highlighted that the Anniversary highlights "the international nature of our Carnival, so this year with our carnival program we intend to ensure that the entire Canary Islands and Europe enjoy the Maspalomas International Carnival." The mayor pointed out the importance and the necessary security device that will combine the light, color and music of the Comparsas, in a meeting where the undisputed protagonist will be the rhythm.

On Tuesday the 12th, we wanted to have the different dance schools for the Choreographic Meeting in which the protagonists will be students from the municipal schools, this will be at 19:00 p.m. at the Yumbo. The next day at 17:00 p.m., the Canine Carnival has been scheduled to take place.

The Drag Queen Gala, international screening

One of the strong days, and one that presents new features, will be the Drag Gala, to which 20 candidates have presented themselves. The high number of participants forces us to carry out a pre-selection, so that a total of 12 participate in the Grand Gala. Its celebration will be on Thursday the 14th, at 21:00 p.m. To attend the Gala, tickets will be on sale through a digital platform, at a modest price. The objective we seek with this novelty is to eliminate the long lines that are created every year at the Carnival Office to obtain a ticket, we make it possible for everyone who wants to attend to have the opportunity to do so since everyone cannot travel to the Yumbo to get one. In addition, the purchase will be limited to 2 tickets per person, to avoid tickets being withdrawn that are later not used. We hope that this measure puts an end to a historical problem in the celebration of this Gala.

Tourist Day will be celebrated on Friday the 15th. In addition to the usual sardine rescue at 12:00 and its transfer from Maspalomas Charca to Playa del Inglés, this year we are recovering the concert in Annex II, under the name Carnaval al Sol will have the main DJs from Los40, to fill the sand of Playa del Inglés with music. We have changed the day of its celebration from Sunday to Friday to avoid it taking place after the great parade.

On Saturday the 16th will be the Great Maspalomas Parade, which, as the mayor has already said, is expected to attract 400.000 people, the largest of all the parades at the regional level, which highlights that Maspalomas has spent 50 years growing and that He has a lot of life ahead of him.

The last day will be Sunday, the 17th with the celebration of the Sardine Tour that will have its usual journey to Playa del Inglés. After the reading of the Testament, the Sardine will be buried at 20:30 p.m. and after that, on the stage located in Annex II, the concerts and fireworks will begin that will end the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the International Carnival of Maspalomas.

Finally, it should be noted that in addition to the music that will be played after each gala on the Yumbo main stage, the beach bar area will have a program of resident DJs. Almost 80% of the professionals we have had will be DJs from the municipality given their high level and success with the taste of the public that enjoys the mogollons.
