On March 7, the security plan for the Maspalomas Carnival will be activated

 

The Maspalomas International Carnival 2024, dedicated to its 50th anniversary to 'Television Memories', will activate its security and emergency plan next Thursday, March 7, at 20:00 p.m., coinciding with the start of the first event of the festive program, which will last until Sunday the 17th.

 

With the aim of outlining its operation, the so-called Safety and Prevention Table met this Friday, of which all the citizen and health security agencies and bodies of the municipality that will participate in the Carnival, and also the Government security agencies, are part. of the Canary Islands such as CECOES-112, the SUC and the General Corps of the Canarian Police. It is estimated that around 300 personnel will participate in the general security, emergency and health device.

 

The meeting was held at the Maspalomas Cultural Center and was chaired by the Councilor for Security and Emergencies, José Carlos Álamo, and the Delegate Councilor for Tourism, Celebrations and Events, Yilenia Vega Macías. Also participating in this security table were the councilors of the area of ​​Cleaning, Roads and Works, Lighting and Parks and Gardens, who are responsible for the maintenance of municipal public services, and representatives of the Maspalomas Health Center, of public transport operations. such as the Taxi Drivers' Cooperative and Global, and those responsible for the companies contracted for the logistics and artistic development of the Carnival.

 

 

 

During the meeting, special emphasis was placed on the issue of traffic and the measures that will be adopted to minimize the problem of vehicle flows at the entrance and exit of the tourist city, especially during Saturday, March 16, which will take place. celebrate the great parade. Among these measures are the elimination of the service lane of European Union Avenue (former GC-500) from El Veril to the Viajes Insular site; the maintenance of the connection of Campo Internacional with Avenida de Color to allow access to Meloneras as a return route to the Highway and the transfer of the Viuda de Franco loading point to the Rondo Shopping Center to give greater fluidity to the traffic in the central axis connecting with Playa del Inglés. 

 

As a novelty, the great parade event will this year have 14 traffic control cameras along the entire route, which will be controlled from the Carnival's advanced security command post, which will be located at the Tourist Office of the Yumbo staffed permanently by a dozen troops. 

 

In addition, the security control of the route, which will maintain the same route as in previous years, will be complemented with the activation of four drones belonging to the services of the Local Police and Fire Department of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council. These same drones will also be operational during all Carnival events to monitor the points of maximum concentration of people, such as the beach bar area and the Yumbo event plaza.

 

 

 

 

The Carnival hospital, with the advanced medical post and medical transport, will be located as in previous editions on Grecia Street. It will be set up with 10 6-meter open-plan booths for the reception of potential patients and a rest and refreshment tent for medical and security teams. 

 

Also in this edition, the 100 coachbuilders who will participate in the parade will be supplied by the City Council with a GPS device that will allow the advanced security command to know at all times where each of the floats are on the route.

 

Likewise, in this 50th anniversary of the Maspalomas Carnival, the direct link that the taxi drivers of the Cooperative and Global drivers will maintain during the provision of their services with the security outpost located in Yumbo to give and receive information about traffic will also be new. or communicate any incident.

 

Taking into account the figures from previous years, the Carnival organization estimates that in this edition more than 300.000 people could participate in the great parade, a volume that for the event's security table requires having the security measures and the actions that must be contemplated and developed in this regard. It was pointed out that any health or security emergency that is declared will be managed through 112, and that cases of care and identification of minors at risk will be handled by the State security forces and the Regional Police.

 

 

 

The Councilor for Security and Emergency, José Carlos Álamo, reiterated at the end of the meeting that “the main premise that will be taken into account throughout the Carnival will be to never lose sight of security measures as the most important element for a good enjoyment.” of each and every one of the Carnival activities. We work with the premise of people's enjoyment and with the main objective being their safety,” he stated.

 

This premise was also corroborated by the Councilor for Celebrations and Events, Yilenia Vega, who thanked the great work and effort being made to allow the celebration of the Maspalomas International Carnival so that it is possible to make “leisure and security” compatible. “10 days of festivities are approaching, and everything is organized so that residents, visitors and tourists can enjoy the 50th anniversary of the Carnival, for this reason I ask all participants to respect the rules and instructions carried out by the members of the State Corps and Security and respect the access and/or parking limitations so that everything develops as smoothly as possible and with all security guarantees,” he said.
