From Maspalomas to La Palma: Rotarians continue their solidarity agenda

The Rotary clubs of the Canary Islands, from Maspalomas, maintain the solidarity agenda with those affected by the last volcanic eruption that occurred in La Palma. All the clubs on the islands have once again expressed their brotherhood in favor of solidarity so that the demands of the palmeros do not fall on deaf ears. Rotary Club is an international entity that operates through a network of more than one million members around the world. 

Through their own internal organization, with social projects and ecumenical cooperation, they also address problems at the local level and collaborate with plans for the community in harmony with the Departments of Social Services. In Gran Canaria, four physical spaces of the organization currently coexist: one in the capital of Gran Canaria, another in Maspalomas, in Arucas and in Telde.

Since 2023, La Palma already has a Rotary club, the first in its history, which is based during its initial phases at the Hacienda de Abajo Hotel in Tazacorte. At its head is Enrique Latorre del Castillo, who has highlighted the support of all the centers where there are Rotary clubs and the altruistic spirit of the organization that has dedicated itself to the territory affected by the volcano, committing to build the Center Rotary Educational Center (CER) of Los Llanos de Aridane. He is also scheduled to hold a congress in the summer of 2024 in Maspalomas with the attendance of the various Spanish partners in his district. The Las Palmas de Gran Canaria club is the oldest club created in the Canary Islands and is already 90 years old.
