Everyone makes statements about the demolition of the RIU Tres Islas in La Oliva except the owners, who maintain absolute silence, hoping that the unanimity of the political and business class will be enough to prevent the demolition of the Tres Islas complex in Fuerteventura. In the south of Gran Canaria, what happens with a venue like that raises eyebrows; But what is worrying is something else: a contagion effect that condemns to revisionism areas that are within the scope of State domains such as the area of Santa Águeda where the cement company Ceisa and Cordial Hotels are fighting for the development of a coastal business associated with hotel consumption.
This Monday the Government Council of the Canary Islands, at the request of the Department of Public Works, Housing and Mobility, agreed, during the session held this morning, to begin a legal procedure to claim from the State the exclusive powers of the autonomous community of Canary Islands in matters of Coasts. One thing happens with this measure: it is not Tourism that asks for them but Public Works because what is at stake is precisely what is at stake in the domain of the coast. With the thesis of the Government of the Canary Islands, the Dunes of Maspalomas or the camels that tourists have walking in the south of Gran Canaria would be a matter of the Canary Islands and not of Madrid.
In this sense, the Executive considers that the archipelago, in accordance with the provisions of article 157 of the Statute of Autonomy of the Canary Islands, has exclusive competence in matters of coastal planning, respecting the general regime of the public domain. This includes the management of occupation titles of the maritime-terrestrial public domain, including all concessions over said space, without any distinction and without legal reservation of powers to the General Administration of the State in this matter.
The Canary Islands Government does not recognize the legal competence of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition to issue the resolution of February 27, 2024, declaring the expiration of the concession granted by Ministerial Order to the commercial entity Geafond Number One Lanzarote. The Autonomous Community requests to act, in the same way, in any other file regarding the management of occupation titles and use of the maritime-terrestrial public domain, especially in the granting of authorizations and concessions.
