The 19-year-old athlete from Maspalomas has established herself as one of the best grappling fighters in Spain

The Maspalomas athlete Victoria Isidro Lohbeck has been proclaimed the 2024 Spanish U20 Grappling champion in the weights of less than 71 and 64 kg respectively. The event took place last weekend in Gijón, Asturias, where more than 1.000 athletes registered.

The 19-year-old Canarian-German fighter has established herself in these fighting modalities in just a few years, reaching the top of Spain for her age and weight, with a great progression in her skills, being one of the main figures of this new sport.

The fighter Victoria Isidro Lohbeck, recent Spanish champion of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Grappling, visited the municipal offices that the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council has in Maspalomas, offering the mayor of the municipality the three medals obtained in the regional and national competitions.

Victoria Isidro was already proclaimed the Canary Islands grappling champion in January 2018, and in February of the same year she attended the Spanish Championship held in Sagunto (Valencia), where she achieved the grappling and Brazilian jiu jitsu twists in the school category of less than 57 kilos.

Grappling is a non-striking sport that combines modern and traditional styles of wrestling and martial arts, including Greco-Roman and Olympic wrestling, judo, jiu jitsu, sambo and shoot wrestling.

In 2006, the International Federation of Associated Wrestling (FILA) officially incorporated it, defining it as a wrestling style that emphasizes control and submission of the opponent without causing injury. At that time it was decided to create a common regulation so that practitioners of any grappling system could compete among themselves. For this, two modalities are considered: with and without gi (kimono). Due to sweat, in the modality without kimono more strength and technique must be used to find a good grip. In accordance with the general philosophy of the sport, athletes must honor the values of sportsmanship and fair play so as not to intentionally injure the opponent.
