Las Palmas has allocated 77.000 to contract Monpex advertisements in the tourist areas of Maspalomas, Playa del Inglés and Meloneras, with the 'Capital City' campaign in order to "encourage" tourists to visit the capital during their stay on the island. This is being done without local authorization and has generated discomfort among business owners in the tourist area. "Those people from Las Palmas, who first try to saturate us by living in apartments with tourists, we don't know what they are going to show the tourists, whether a burned boat in Santa Catalina or the smells in La Puntilla de la Playita de Las Canteras with terraces invading all public space," said a businessman.
This Las Palmas campaign uses the advertising media circuit of the urban furniture of these tourist areas, some of the main attractions of the city such as the Plaza de Santa Ana and the cathedral, the façade of the Literary Cabinet, the Caldera de Bandama and the Bay of El Confital (which has been under construction since September) and its two beaches: Alcaravaneras and Las Canteras.

To take away tourism from the south of the island, the images of Las Palmas are located in spaces in Annex II of Playa del Inglés, owned by people from Las Palmas and there is no way they can rehabilitate it with their own funds, the Paseo Costa Canaria, Paseo de Meloneras, Charca de Maspalomas, Avenida de Italia, Avenida de Tirajana, Alféreces Provisionales and Parque Tropical, among other locations.
