A large National Police device is established for the Maspalomas Carnival

Maspalomas24h Thursday, March 07, 2024

In the areas where most of the 2024 Carnival events will take place, the National Police will establish specific operational devices due to the large influx of people

On the occasion of the celebration of Carnival 2024 in Maspalomas, the National Police will execute the corresponding police security device together with the Local Police of San Bartolomé de Tirajana.

On these dates, San Bartolomé de Tirajana welcomes thousands of people of different origins who come in order to participate and join the Carnival festivities in events such as concerts, contests, parades and parades, etc., a circumstance that entails the production of great concentrations of people that may affect public safety.

The mission of the National Police in this device is to avoid crowds in the surrounding area, as well as to prevent and avoid the commission of criminal acts, especially those involving violence against people. It must be guaranteed that citizens enjoy festive events in an optimal and safe framework of coexistence.

More than 300 National Police officers from the Maspalomas National Police Station, Citizen Assistance Group (GAC), Prevention and Reaction Unit (UPR) will participate in the device, supported by different special units such as the Police Unit. Police Intervention (UIP), Prevention and Reaction Unit (UPR) of the Higher Headquarters of the Canary Islands and Air Resources, all of them coordinated through the CIMACC 091 Operational Room.

CIMACC Room 091 will be in direct contact with the Local Police Room and Room 112 for the correct transmission of instructions to all callsigns in service.

Most of the events will be at the Yumbo CC and surrounding areas, with the exception of the Children's Parade, the Great Parade, the Sardine events and the Carnival in the Sun concert.

On the occasion of the Great Parade that will take place on March 16, being the most relevant event in terms of citizen security and public order due to the large influx of public throughout the entire route, the National Police will carry out a important security deployment.

The designed operation is flexible enough to adapt to the demands and unforeseen events that the development of the celebrations demands, the fundamental points of action being the following:

-Ensure public safety.

-Prevention and deterrence of the commission of criminal or administrative crimes by organized and/or violent youth groups.

-Acts of vandalism and attacks, by citizens under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

-Retail and consumption of narcotic substances.

-Crimes against sexual freedom.

-Consumption of alcoholic beverages or narcotics by minors.

-Pulls and thefts.

-Theft of vehicles or objects inside them.

-Ensure safety in the means of transport used to travel to and from the place of the celebrations.

-Control in situ of itinerant organized crime of foreign origin.

Tips

Taking advantage of the occasion, the National Police wants to remember a series of security tips:

Bring the essentials to events such as parades and parades, keeping an eye on your belongings; avoiding carrying valuable objects as much as possible. Keep bags and backpacks closed towards the front and use the front pockets.

Do not carry potentially dangerous objects or materials that could put your integrity or that of third parties at risk, such as glass bottles or sticks.

Drug consumption is not only very harmful to health, but if it is done on public roads it is grounds for punishment, and drug trafficking constitutes a crime.

In crowds and with small children, put the phone number of the adult accompanying them in a visible place.

Do not park near areas with the greatest presence of people, thus reducing the risk of material damage to vehicles, as well as avoiding leaving objects visible inside.

Do not withdraw money in the vicinity of areas with a large influx of people, or if you do, take special care to avoid incidents.

If you observe any altercation or violent act, stay away from it and notify the police officers on duty or by calling 091. ALWAYS avoid violence. RESPECT and calm.
