The assembly held in Teguise also served to join forces to request a greater presence of the State Security Forces and Bodies in these municipalities
The Association of Tourist Municipalities of the Canary Islands (AMTC), which represents the thirteen leading municipalities in the sector on the islands, met this Tuesday in the Lanzarote municipality of Teguise to continue advancing in the decarbonization process and the approval of 16 pilot projects framed in the 'Canary Green' initiative.
The president of the AMTC and mayor of Adeje, José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga, highlighted that this meeting in Teguise allows the association to maintain its roaming through the different destinations that make up the entity. Furthermore, he referred to the fact that “it allows us to maintain contact with the reality of each municipality.”
For her part, the mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque, pointed out the importance for the municipality of hosting this meeting that allows for continued progress in the projects developed by the AMTC, giving prominence to all municipalities and islands in defining strategies. that affect many territories of the archipelago. The mayor also stressed that “teamwork allows us to find better solutions.”
The thirteen town councils that make up the Association have approved the start of the 16 pilot projects of this initiative, which allow the deployment and updating of the initiatives, and which are led by the AMTC municipalities. These are experimental projects.
There are 16 actions aimed at achieving sustainable actions, energy efficiency, digital technology and training and awareness to generate safe and decarbonized destinations, and that will also generate employment.
Among the actions that will be undertaken in the area to achieve a green and sustainable transition, sensors will be incorporated into buoys for the control and measurement of sea quality, as well as for efficient use in irrigation, and cameras for the control of capacity of beaches and parking lots.
In the section dedicated to energy efficiency, actions are proposed such as the implementation of intelligent lighting and charging points for electric vehicles, while in the axis called digital transition, an intelligent tourist platform will be created that will allow tourists to know the footprint of carbon it generates and the way to redeem it.
José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga highlighted that this project 'Canary Green. Decarbonization of Destination' meets the double objective of digitalization and sustainability, in addition to the generation of qualified employment.
Security
The AMTC has also put on the table the real situation of the State Security Forces and Bodies in the Canary Islands, and especially in the municipalities that make up this Association. Specifically, there are 10 municipalities that have the presence or are only under the jurisdiction of the Civil Guard.
In that sense, the mayor of Mogán and vice president of the AMTC, Onalia Bueno, expressed that “the lack of personnel is important in these municipalities,” in addition to regretting that after retirements or service commissions, “the replacement of personnel is practically nil. ”.
Bueno also referred to the fact that, although an attempt has been made to maintain direct dialogue with the Government Delegation to try to resolve this problem, "the needs of these localities are not fully met," which is why the AMTC is working on request for a direct meeting with the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska.
The AMTC considers that it is the Ministry of the Interior that has the capacity to resolve the current situation of lack of troops in these municipalities, having as a premise that the intervention groups of the Civil Guard are reinforced in any part of the national territory. something that does not happen in the Canary Islands during the summer period.
In that sense, José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga referred to the commendable work that the Local Police continue to carry out, pointing out the need to reinforce the presence and strength of all police forces to offer a better service to residents, as well as visitors, and cover all security needs in the best possible way.
To advance in this matter, as proposed by Onalia Bueno, each municipality will prepare a report prepared by its Local Police, supported by the Security Board of each municipality, which allows the needs that these localities have to be submitted to the Ministry of the Interior.
This report will also make it possible to define the powers of the different bodies and their intervention when appropriate and in the different areas related to tourism.
Likewise, the AMTC assembly agreed to convey to the regional advisor for the Presidency, Justice and Security, Nieves Lady Barreto, the need for a meeting to advance a future deployment of the Canarian Police in tourist municipalities.
Coptourism
The assembly also featured the presentation to the AMTC municipalities of the Official College of Tourism Professionals of the Canary Islands (Copturismo), through its dean, Daniel Celis. It is a Public Law Corporation created in 1996, which has regional scope and representation in the two provinces of the archipelago.
The meeting also allowed us to discuss administrative matters and the preparation of different projects in which the Association of Tourist Municipalities of the Canary Islands works together in its commitment to generating sustainable tourism and the digitalization of destinations.
