The agreement once again has institutional support from the Government of the Canary Islands, the Island Council of Gran Canaria and the City Council of La Aldea de San Nicolás
The SPAR Gran Canaria supermarket chain and the San Nicolás Agricultural Cooperative Society (COAGRISAN) have renewed today, for the fourth consecutive year, their collaboration agreement to promote quality production and marketing of La Aldea tomato. In this year's campaign, the quantities sold in the previous campaign will be slightly increased, with approximately 50.000 more kilos, estimating that around 600.000 kilos of tomatoes will be sold, mainly of the Pyreno variety. Through the agreement, the Canarian supermarket chain once again guarantees COAGRISAN the marketing of its crops at a fair price.
By purchasing this local product, which can now be purchased at SPAR supermarkets in Gran Canaria, and which will be available until June, customers will directly contribute to maintaining the jobs of the 78 farmers and more than 700 families from the island that are part of COAGRISAN. Thus, tomato cultivation in La Aldea has great relevance, since it is the largest employment generating activity. So much so that the COAGRISAN greenhouses occupy 110 hectares in La Aldea.
With this type of agreements, the SPAR Gran Canaria group continues to promote its philosophy of promoting the KM product. 0, encouraging consumers to purchase local products thanks to the relationship it maintains with more than 200 farmers and ranchers on the islands. This philosophy represents an exercise in sustainability, commitment and responsibility with the Canary Islands.

For his part, Juan José del Pino, president of COAGRISAN, an entity founded in 1961 and the first exporting cooperative by volume of tomatoes in the Canary Islands, highlighted that “the importance of continuing to renew this agreement to continue providing outlets for the tomatoes grown in La Aldea.
