The most successful veteran jodoca in the world, known as 'The Professor', teaches master classes in Maspalomas

 

Veteran judo master Walter Trapp, six-time world champion, five-time European champion and eleven-time consecutive German champion, is taking advantage of his vacation in San Bartolomé de Tirajana to give master classes on his main fighting techniques to the students of the Sports Club. Walter Trapp, a native of the German town of Duisburg (Düsseldorf), is 77 years old and has the seventh Dan of judo, a sport he has practiced since 1957. He considers it one of his main vitamins of life. He fought in official competitions until he was 44 years old and after a break he returned to the competitive tatami until he decided to retire after the 2015 World Masters.

Trapp is considered the most decorated veteran judoka in the world. Wherever he goes he is known as 'the professor'. In fact, he is passionate about teaching judo, a task in which he has applied himself as a coach, especially with children and young people, for more than 30 years. He is a true perfectionist. In his classes he still demonstrates the disciplined and meticulous character of his main techniques, especially in legs and judo-floor, and in the shoulder throw.
