She is the second woman to take over the leadership of a local police force on the island of Gran Canaria.

The Agüimes Local Police has a new person in charge. Officer Luisa González Alemán took office this Monday as the new chief, after her appointment signed by the mayor, Óscar Hernández, and the secretary of the City Council, Antonio Patiño.

She joined the force in 1988 and has dedicated her 33 years of service to the municipality, with the only exception of a short period on secondment in Santa Brígida. In recent months she had already been performing the role of accidental chief, after the retirement of the previous chief, sub-inspector Juan Ildefonso Ramírez.

The new Chief of Police has stood out for her efficient work in numerous situations for which she has been required throughout her extensive professional career, such as the arrival of migrants in an irregular situation to the coasts of the municipality, care for accident victims traffic or actions for the safety of people and property in accidents and forest fires. Specialized in road traffic training, she has also worked as a teacher of this subject in the courses, talks and conferences that the Agüimes Local Police has carried out in collaboration with the educational centers of the municipality.

At his inauguration, González Alemán expressed his desire to live up to what the City Council and the population expect from the Local Police and expressed his willingness to meet all the demands of citizens, always being available to anyone who needs your intervention.

The mayor of Agüimes, Óscar Hernández, congratulated the new chief and conveyed his desire to work together for a police force that is closer and more committed to citizens. The mayor also highlighted that it is the first time that Agüimes has a woman at the head of its Local Police, the second on the island of Gran Canaria, a fact that represents a new achievement on the path towards effective equality between men and women in all areas of society.
