The municipality will open the 48th edition of the Rally Islas Canarias and hopes to repeat it in 2025 and 2026, when the event will be part of the WRC - World Rally Championship
Santa Lucía de Tirajana has not overlooked the announcement of the arrival of the WRC to Gran Canaria. It only took a few days after the announcement for Francisco García and Julio Ojeda to sign an agreement with the promoters of the Rally Islas Canarias.
The municipality will host the first stage of the Rally, which will be held on Saturday, May 3 after the known as “spectacle section” that will once again fully put the cars in the Gran Canaria Arena, this year with new features according to the organization.
Ojeda and García do not hide that the municipality's intention is to maintain this relationship with the promoters of the event for the next two years, thus being the first special stage of the WRC. An intention that seems reciprocal, since Germán Morales, promoter of the Canary Islands Rally, assured that “We hope that this agreement continues in the future.”
In this way, the municipality is positioned with an advantage to host the tourism boom represented by the celebration of the World Rally Championship in Gran Canaria. A test in full expansion and that aspires to follow in the media wake of the FIA's star competition, Formula 1.
