“Gran Canaria Tourism is making a budgetary effort to make improvements in the tourist area of Maspalomas and that we consider vital to make the tourist city more comfortable for the visitor and more sustainable. Furthermore, it is important to delve deeper into improving the image because we have a lot at stake in these busy seasons and we want to reaffirm our position as the Canarian destination that has the most repeaters,” explained the Tourism Councilor of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Carlos Álamo. .
The highest item corresponds to the award of 1,5 million euros for the Access project to the Maspalomas Lighthouse, as well as the bus stop area, and involves one hundred percent of the execution cost. The amount is recorded in the Gran Canaria Tourism budget itself.

Improvements will also be made in matters of energy sustainability, for the benefit of climate change and the reduction of the carbon footprint and includes actions such as reducing consumption in public lighting, reducing light pollution or incorporating energy collectors. photovoltaic. This has an allocation of 675.000 euros. Thirdly, Environmental Quality actions worth 225.000 euros will be carried out. This section includes landscaping and gardening tasks, with the incorporation of green infrastructure, with their corresponding irrigation systems through the use of regenerated water and the generation of shadows through landscaping.
Gran Canaria Tourism has allocated a sum of 375.000 euros for an urban drainage project in the Maspalomas Charca area to prevent flooding due to stormwater runoff in the area around the Charca.
Lastly, a subsidy of 195.000 euros has been granted to the Consortium for an energy efficiency project, with improvements in the treatment and use of water and lighting.
All of the Consortium's actions have among their priorities the improvement of the tourist city so that it is more comfortable for the client, more sustainable with 'bio-healthy' areas and with an image in line with the quality of the destination.
Carlos Álamo recalled that the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, through the Ministry of Tourism, is committed to the renewal and improvement of tourist areas. To do this, it relies on the Maspalomas Consortium, a body that was able to recover its power of action and intervention thanks to the commitment that Gran Canaria tourism made in 2020, providing it with 16 million euros of financial token to carry out the first Actions. Between 2020 and 2023, the Consortium has carried out, among others, improvements to the Paseo de Meloneras, in the Oasis of Maspalomas, with new access to the pond and the commercial area; the Maspalomas Market; has carried out a restructuring of the lighting system for greater safety; the renovation of the walkways to access the sand, the renovation and creation of a landscape area where the old slide is located.
