Gran Canaria hosts the III Conference on Air Connectivity for Tourist Destinations

The island of Gran Canaria is preparing to receive the main airlines of Spain in the third edition of the Air Connectivity Day organized by Turespaña and Aena for the Tourist Destinations of Spain, which will take place on April 4 at the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium in the capital of Gran Canaria, with the participation of Turismo de Gran Canaria.

 

 

The Minister of Tourism of Gran Canaria, Carlos Álamo, valued the presence of the national event on the island as an opportunity to learn about the keys to the connectivity of the island destination and “relate with the leading agents of the sector.” Álamo explained that it is a meeting focused on professionals from tourist destinations throughout Spain with airline companies, the participation of the Air Transport Association (IATA) and the Association of Airlines (ALA) in which both the perspectives of the sector such as the process of creating new routes and the opening of new markets.

 

 

The Cabildo counselor explained that connectivity has always been the workhorse of the ministry and, as an island destination, “we depend on the capacity we have to receive clients by air, so it is an event of maximum interest to understand the current scenario and advance essential connectivity for the coming years,” he explained.   

 

 

During this last winter season, 2023-2024, the island of Gran Canaria had 680 air routes, 10,7% more than the previous one, it was connected to 169 airports and 63 airlines were present on the island. 29.316 operations were carried out, with an increase of 9,6% in the year-on-year comparison. Meanwhile, the 2023 financial year closed with 13.961.638 passengers at Gran Canaria Airport, 5,3% more compared to 2019 and 12,4% compared to 2022.
