Did you know that Gran Canaria has its own 'early morning'?

 

'La madrugá' is possibly the most anticipated event of the renowned Holy Week in Seville. During the early hours of Good Friday, Seville experiences a night full of magic, illusion and faith in which the city takes to the streets to witness the steps of the brotherhoods of El Silencio, El Gran Poder, La Macarena, El Calvario, La Esperanza de Triana and The Gypsies.

 

A night in which the smell of orange blossom and incense mix with the orchestra that accompanies the steps and the contrast between the silence before the passage of the brotherhoods and the bustle of the businesses that open during the night to provide services and accompany the crowd during one of the city's most special nights. A tradition also followed in other parts of Andalusia such as Córdoba.

However, few people know that Gran Canaria has its 'early morning' on a smaller scale. It is celebrated in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria with the procession of the Cristo del Buen Fin, which leaves at midnight from the hermitage of the Holy Spirit on the traditional Viacrucis del Silencio that will take you through several streets of the capital until you return to its temple.

 

 

Precisely, Holy Week in Seville has the brotherhood of Buen Fin, based in the Church of San Antonio de Padua and which processions every Holy Wednesday along with about 700 Nazarenes and with a carving that dates back to 1645.

 

The image of the Cristo del Buen Fin is a life-size carving that dates back to the last third of the 17th century and whose author is unknown. Despite having a processional march titled with its own name, the procession takes place in silence and in a penitence station.

 

 

 

 

Like every year, the hermitage opens its doors from 20:00 p.m. to visit the Cristo del Buen Fin hours before departure.
