San Bartolomé de Tirajana commemorates the 150th anniversary of the Red Cross

 

The San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council has been illuminating the sculptures of the three large roundabouts on Avenida Alejando del Castillo in red since last Wednesday to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the creation of the Red Cross in the Canary Islands, founded in the Islands on the 1st of April 1.874.

 

The sculptural illumination with red light in reference to the humanitarian organization has been promoted by Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez Sánchez and the Department of the Presidency led by the second deputy mayor, Elena Álamo Vega, as a sign of respect, congratulations and gratitude to the altruistic and proximity work that he carries out his volunteer work with the people in this municipality.

 

 

Furthermore, the initiative to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Red Cross in the Canary Islands has also been extended to the headquarters of the Municipal Offices, in San Fernando de Maspalomas, in whose entrance hall a large flag identifying the organization has been installed visibly to encourage among citizens the memory of this anniversary.

 

Those responsible for the Red Cross in the Canary Islands remember that this organization has been present in all major events and emergencies since the 19th century, such as typhoid fever, the two world wars, the Spanish civil war, volcanic eruptions, and socio-health programs of the Spanish post-war period. , AIDS pandemic, care for migrants, Covid-XNUMX pandemic and large fires.
