Since this March, the police authorities in the south of Gran Canaria have accelerated controls on professionals and entities dedicated to organizing witchcraft rituals and, especially, in Santa Lucía de Tirajana. This is a measure resulting from advertisements for shamanic sessions where prohibited psychoactive substances dangerous to health could be supplied. A shamanic summit is planned for this month of April in Tenerife and it is possible that it will be replicated in Gran Canaria. It is known that sessions would have taken place in San Mateo, in the interior of the island of Gran Canaria.
It is not the first time that measures of this type have been taken given that in 2023 agents of the National Police intervened when a ritual was going to begin in which these psychoactive substances were offered, which act as a tool to recruit and control attendees. , as well as a source of financing for the organizer of the meetings. In some cases, these substances are used as a substitute therapy for conventional medicine, which facilitates mental manipulation and causes consumers a situation of greater vulnerability.
The organizer advertised these rituals through social networks and websites, as well as the psychoactive substances that were provided, such as ayahuasca, bufo toad, kambo frog, San Pedro cactus and others similar. During the development of the investigation, it was found that minors sometimes participated in these rituals.
In the search carried out on the occasion of the police operation in which this woman was detained, numerous containers with various types of substances, utensils used for their consumption and dosage, and a large number of elements and beads commonly used by shamans originating from the Amazon basin during the celebration of this type of rituals. According to researchers, these types of substances are usually used within the framework of ceremonies practiced by the so-called “new age sects”, specifically in neo-shamanic rituals.
