The Minister of Territorial Policy, Manuel Miranda, meets with those responsible for the Department of Urban Planning to review different objectives related to municipal planning

The Minister of Territorial Policy, Territorial Cohesion and Water of the Government of the Canary Islands, Manuel Miranda, has agreed together with those responsible for the Urban Planning Department of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council to re-promote the Tourist Modernization Plan for the Maspalomas area, a document that will allow updating and reorganizing this tourist space in the south of Gran Canaria. This agreement occurred during a meeting held at the headquarters of the Ministry and in which, in addition to Miranda, the Deputy Minister of Territorial Planning, Elena Zárate, were present; the general director of Territorial Planning, Onán Cruz; the CEO and technicians of Gesplan; as well as the first deputy mayor, Alejandro Marichal; the Councilor for Urban Planning, Davinia Ramírez, and municipal technicians.
During the meeting, the possibility of reviving this Modernization Plan was raised, which was stopped in 2021 and which, according to both parties, will have to be reviewed and updated. Thus, in the near future a meeting will be held in the municipality itself, with a more technical approach, to work on the pre-existing draft and the initial documentation that was prepared at the time.
In addition, work will be done on the drafting and signing of an agreement between the Government and the City Council to coordinate the needs and financing of the entire process, as well as possible regulatory updates that would have to be applied in the document prepared in 2021.
The meeting also served for the City Council to convey to the Government of the Canary Islands its request to resume the drafting of the General Planning Plan, on a supplementary basis, that is, it will be assumed by the Department of Territorial Policy, and which had also been stopped for some time. years, as well as updating the processing of the El Veril Modernization Plan, which is pending a report that provides legal certainty to the procedure.
Manuel Miranda has thanked the municipal councilors and technicians for their “predisposition to promote and update the planning of their locality”, and has made “the entire Ministry team available to the municipality to work together in the development of its planning, key to guaranteeing social and economic development in accordance with the needs of the citizens and economic sectors of San Bartolomé.”
For his part, Alejandro Marichal was interested in both tourist modernization files, pointing out “we have not forgotten this commitment to residents and investors, both PMMs are fundamental for the development of the tourist area of the municipality,” given that “it is the tool necessary to address actions aimed at the rehabilitation of the urban-tourist space, the environmental, social and landscape framework and thereby enhance the improvement of the tourist image,” concluded the deputy mayor.
After the meeting, the political representatives positively valued the creation of a technical commission that will allow progress in the approval of both plans, since "our collaboration with the Government of the Canary Islands will be full and we will provide all the necessary resources, so that the Government draft and approve both plans,” commented the person responsible for urban planning at the local corporation, Davinia Ramírez.
