Speaking to ABC Nyheter, the peninsular official suggests that "many Norwegians benefit from experiencing the great variety between the islands" and that "I have been to all eight islands and I firmly believe that the best beaches are in Fuerteventura. The beaches of El Papagayo in Lanzarote and La Tejita in Tenerife are also good options. La Tejita is that beach where there are demonstrations against tourismphobia due to the works of a Galician construction company. There are no mentions of Maspalomas or Amadores. The newspaper states in its text that it echoes an official statement from Turespaña in Oslo.
The Nordic newspaper recalls that in the summer of 2023, 67.080 air passengers traveled from Norway to the Canary Islands. This year, the number will increase to more than 71.000, which represents an 11 percent growth so far. In comparison, the number of summer departures in 2024 has so far decreased by 13,3% from Sweden, 21,2% from Denmark and a whopping 55,9% from Finland. "There is no doubt that Norwegians have opened their eyes to the Canary Islands, and especially Gran Canaria, as a summer destination," says Juan Francisco Cervero, director of the Spanish tourism office in Norway, in a press release.
The official states that "it is not easy to explain the love affair that many Norwegians have with Gran Canaria. We see that many people return again and again and the most important reasons are, of course, a warm and stable climate, a manageable travel time and many direct flights from various cities in Norway," says Cervero. And here comes the message: "part of the charm of the Canary Islands is the opportunity to see several islands in one vacation. Preferably with a guide who knows the secret gems and authentic aspects of island life" since "many Norwegians benefit from "experience the great variety between the islands. I have been to all eight islands and I firmly believe that the best beaches are in Fuerteventura. The beaches of El Papagayo in Lanzarote and La Tejita in Tenerife are also good options, concludes Cervero."
